Sofologi Fani (1976)

She was born in Athens in 1976. At first she studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1995-2001). In 1998 she went in Spain for a year on scholarship to study at the University of Barcelona, Facultat de Belles Artes, while from 2006 to 2008, she attended a postgraduate programme in fine arts (Public Art and New Artistic Strategies) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Germany. Since her university years, she had already begun to present installations and performances in public spaces. Her first solo show in Greece (a video installation) was held in 2002 at the Kappatos gallery.
Through her artistic actions she suggests a different reading of the functions of an actual and specific space, by creating new versions of reality or new circumstances and by intervening in the perception mechanism of the viewer. Her themes tend to revolve either around public space and its customary functions, or around a personal experience expressed through art. Her works are usually interactive. Apart from her personal live performances, she has created videos, installations and drawings on paper (Intimate Coasters). She has also participated in group activities and happenings of collective schemes in Greece and Germany.
In 2003 she was awarded the Yannis Spyropoulos 1st prize by the Yannis Spyropoulos Foundation.
She has presented four solo exhibitions in Athens and has participated in many group and international shows in Greece, but also in Austria, Germany, U.S.A., Spain, Italy, etc.
