Born in Athens in 1965, she graduated from Pierce College, Greece and studied at the Drama School of the Athens Conservatoire. She studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Thodoros Papagiannis (1995-2000) and attended drawing classes at the Atelier Vivant of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris under Daniel Lacomme (1999).
From the outset she has been creating and remoulding form using a host of different materials as she explores their behaviour. In her first solo exhibition (Conquered territories of Mneme and Cosmos; Athens Art Gallery, 2009) she presented monumental masks made of volcanic rock from Aegina, demonstrating the sculptural qualities of primordial shapes which acquire a metaphysical dimension as they formalise the cry and the silence contained in matter. Her next show, Mapping oneself (Blue Building of Exarchia & Athens Art Gallery, 2011), was dominated by a suspended world of handmade paper like the ephemeral stage set for a personal introspection.
In 2014 the atrium of the Benaki Museum hosted Bastions, a large-scale sculptural installation made of steel. The austere geometry of the work recalls a kind of defensive architecture and suggest an act of defending oneself against a siege, as if calling upon the viewer to ‘resist’ the oppressive situation that surrounds us these days. The work is now installed in the garden of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
In addition to her artistic practice she teaches sculpture to primary-school students at the Deutsche Schule Athen, and since 2007 she has been organising sculpture workshops for children on Aegina, where she is culturally active in a special venue where she presents thatre, concerts, exhibitions, poetry nights, etc.
She has had solo exhibitions in Greece and Italy and participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Italy, Switzerland, USA). In recognition of her work, in January 2017 she was made a Cavaliere all’Ordine del Merito della Repubblica italiana by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Her works can be found in public locations and in private collections in Greece and abroad.
