Papadopoulou Bia (1961)

Born in Athens in 1961, from 1978 to 1982 she studied art history at the School of Fine Arts of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and continued with postgraduate studies in art history at the University of California, Berkeley (1982-1984). In 1983, during her studies, she was an educational assistant for the retrospective of Juan Gris at the Museum of the University of California,a nd after graduating she worked as research assistant with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for the revised catalogue of the "Peggy Guggenheim" Collection in Venice.
Upon her return to Greece in 1984 she joined the Eikastika Magazine, which she directed in 1985-1986. She worked also with several other magazines, including Epikaira, The Art Magazine, Eikones, Elle, La Mia casa, writing mainly on matters of contemporary Greek art, and published articles and papers in the international periodicals Art News, Flash Art International, Art Press, +-O, Arte Dossier, Next, Terzo ochio. Her texts have been published in solo and group exhibition catalogues, collective volumes, etc. She has also written entries for the Greek and English editions of the dictionary of Contemporary Greek Artists (Athens: Melissa 1998-2000 & 2004).
Active as a curator since the mid-’90s, she has organised several solo and group exhibitions in collaboration with public and private institutions, including: Yannis Gaitis 1945-1967 (Athens Municipal Gallery, 1996), Opy Zouni: Mirages-Today's Imagination (Patra Municipal Gallery, 1998-1999), Opy Zouni: Imaginary Environments 1990-2002 (National Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art, Nicosia, 2005), Yannis Moralis (Cyclades Municipal Gallery, Syros 2005), The Years of Defiance: ’70s Art in Greece, (Athens Concert Hall, org. by EMST, 2006); Dimitris Perdikidis (Chania Municipal Gallery, 2010), etc. In 2018 she co-curated the exhibition Theorems Ι, Deductive and Axiomatic Systems, organised by AICA Hellas at the EMST.
She has participated in many conferences and public forums, taught seminars and lectured in collaboration with academic and cultural institutions. A member of several scientific and curatorial committees and boards of trustees, she is an active member of AICA Hellas and has served as its General Secretary for several years.
